First woman student President and all women student representatives elected in the Student Representative Council Election 2024-25.
The Sikkim Government Law College, Gangtok which offers a prestigious 5-year integrated B.A. LL.B. course successfully conducted its Student Representative Council (SRC) election for the academic year 2024-2025 on 29.10.24. The college has 290 students enrolled, with a notable majority of 200 female students compared to 90 male students.
This year’s election witnessed strong enthusiasm and active participation from students of all five years of the integrated course. The election process was meticulously organized, beginning with the casting of votes at 8.00 a.m. sharp and continued until 1.00 pm.
Out of the total 290 enrolled students, 97 % participated in the voting, marking a total voter turnout of 282 students. (Male voters 88 and Female voters 194) Following a brief lunch break, the counting of votes began promptly at 2.10 p.m. and results were declared at 3.45 p.m.
Outstandingly, the position of Class Representative of the 7th Semester was uncontested, resulting in an automatic appointment of the candidate.
As for the elections results, the following candidates are elected to major roles:

The newly elected all women SRC members conveyed gratitude to their peers for their support and highlighted their commitment to enhancing the college experience for all students. Further, Ms.Sohitya Kala Limbu made history by being elected as the first female student to the post of the President. She expressed determination to make the SRC an effective voice for students and promised to prioritize the interests of the student body, particularly with regard to academic resources, campus facilities, student welfare, and extracurricular opportunities.
The Principal of Sikkim Government Law College, Gangtok, Dr. Tshewang Dorjee Lama, congratulated the elected representatives and praised the SRC Election Commission for peaceful and democratic conduct of the election. He praised the students for exercising their democratic right and for display of decorum and mutual respect. The Principal further reaffirmed that the college administration looks forward to working closely with the SRC to enhance the campus environment and support students in achieving their academic and extracurricular goals.
The 2024-25 SRC election at Sikkim Government Law College, Gangtok, marks yet another step in fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, where students are empowered to participate in shaping their college experience actively.
