Inaugural Function of ‘Cyber Sakhi – Cyber Safe Sikkim’ Held at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College.
In a significant push toward building a safer online environment across the state, Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College hosted the inaugural function of the Cyber Sakhi – Cyber Safe Sikkim campaign. The initiative was facilitated by Responsible Netism ( Aahan Foundation) alongside its implementing partner, Katalytic Educational Foundation, founded and led by Ms. Kunzang Choeki Bhutia, with support of the Student Welfare Board, Government of Sikkim.
Building on this momentum, similar interactive sessions are scheduled to roll out over the next three days at DIET College Burtuk, Government Law College Burtuk, and Burtuk Government College. Together, these efforts aim to train and inspire over 200 Cyber Safety Ambassadors to lead digital safety awareness across their campuses and neighbourhoods.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Sonam Chopel, Chairperson of the Student Welfare Board, Government of Sikkim. Applauding the team for addressing such a relevant issue, he stressed how crucial digital literacy and responsible online habits have become for today's youth.
Welcoming the attendees, Dr. D. Purohit, Principal of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, underscored the importance of academic institutions coming together to support digital safety. The launch also saw the participation of key dignitaries, including Smt. Bhimkumari Sharma (Chairperson, Culture Department, Government of Sikkim), along with Dr. Sabitri Mukhya and Mr. Naresh Chettri (Board Members, Student Welfare Board, Government of Sikkim).
Through the leadership of KCF team, the campaign equips students with practical strategies to navigate the digital world with confidence and care. Speakers reminded students that staying safe online is no longer just an option—it is a necessity—and encouraged them to step up as champions for cyber safety within their college, homes, and communities.
The program ended with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guests, participating colleges, team members, and energetic student participants who made the launch a success.
