Breastfeeding Corner Inaugurated at HWC Lingmoo
Namchi, 6 October: A Breastfeeding Corner was inaugurated today at the Health & Wellness Centre (HWC), Lingmoo, Namchi District, by the Hon’ble Deputy Speaker-cum-Area MLA, Smt. Raj Kumari Thapa.
The Breastfeeding Corner has been established on the initiative of Hon’ble Deputy Speaker Smt. Raj Kumari Thapa with the objective of providing a safe, private and comfortable space for mothers to breastfeed their babies while visiting the health centre. The initiative aims to promote breastfeeding and create a more mother- and child-friendly environment at the grassroots level.
The inauguration programme was attended by Shri K.D. Kafley, Zilla Panchayat Member; Shri Bishnu Nirola, Panchayat President; Smt. Parmila Tamang, Namchi District Nari Vice Convenor; Dr. Christina Lepcha; Shri Gopal Timsina, CLC General Secretary; Shri Yurba Singh Limboo, Garib Jan Kalyan Prakosta; Panchayat Members; MPHW Shri Mani Kumar Sharma and other health staff, along with representatives of the Nari Wing, Youth Wing and residents.
The establishment of the Breastfeeding Corner received support and cooperation from people from different sections of the community. Elected representatives, Panchayat members, party functionaries and workers, Nari and Youth Wing members, healthcare personnel and residents extended their cooperation towards the initiative.
The facility provides mothers with a dedicated space where they can breastfeed their babies with greater privacy and comfort while accessing healthcare services. It also reflects the importance of providing basic facilities that respond to the needs of mothers and children at the local level.
The programme highlighted the importance of supporting breastfeeding mothers and strengthening mother- and child-friendly facilities at health centres. It also aimed to create greater awareness about the importance of breastfeeding for the health and well-being of both mothers and infants.
The Hon’ble Deputy Speaker-cum-Area MLA, Smt. Raj Kumari Thapa, expressed her appreciation to the HWC staff and residents for their support, cooperation and collective efforts towards establishing the Breastfeeding Corner. She thanked everyone who contributed their time, resources and assistance in making the initiative possible.
