Ten-Day Wine Training Programme Commences at Government Fruit Preservation Factory, Singtam
Singtam, Sikkim | 2nd October 2026
The Government Fruit Preservation Factory (GFPF), Singtam, under the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, has commenced a 10-day Wine Training Programme from 29 September 2026, aimed at strengthening technical knowledge and building capacity in the field of wine production in Sikkim. The training programme is being conducted under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme.
The inaugural session of the training programme was graced by Smt. Karma D. Youtso, Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department, Shri M. Ravi Kumar, Principal Director, MSME, Commerce & Industries Department, and Smt. Chanda Rani Rai, Managing Director, Government Fruit Preservation Factory, along with other officials and staff members of GFPF.
The training programme is being conducted by Mr. Nagesh Pai and Mr. Aditya Pawar from Dewise Drinks Solutions, Mumbai, Maharashtra, who bring specialised technical expertise and experience in wine production and processing.
The 10-day comprehensive training programme covers the fundamentals of winemaking from the initial stage through to the final phase, with emphasis on the various technical aspects and process parameters involved in producing quality wine. The programme provides participants with knowledge of key stages including raw material selection and preparation, fermentation, processing, clarification, maturation and finishing, along with relevant technical considerations and quality parameters.
The programme is being conducted in conjunction with the Pilot Winery Setup at GFPF, which is intended to provide practical exposure to winery operations and facilitate hands-on understanding of various stages of wine production. The pilot facility will also serve as a platform for demonstrating appropriate processing techniques, equipment and process parameters relevant to fruit-based wine production.
The programme brings together participants from various parts of Sikkim who are engaged in or exploring winemaking, providing them with an opportunity to enhance their technical knowledge, gain practical insights and understand standard winemaking practices. The participation of individuals involved in winemaking across the state reflects the growing interest in fruit-based wine production and value addition within Sikkim.
The training also provides an important platform for knowledge sharing and interaction among wine makers, technical experts and government officials, fostering greater understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with wine production.
The initiative is expected to contribute towards strengthening the technical capabilities of the state’s wine-making community while encouraging value addition of locally available fruits and agricultural produce. It also aligns with the broader objective of promoting food processing, product diversification and entrepreneurship in Sikkim.
The Pilot Winery Setup, supported under the RAMP Scheme, represents an important step towards developing technical infrastructure and strengthening the ecosystem for fruit-based wine production in the state. Through training, practical exposure and technical capacity building, the initiative seeks to create greater opportunities for entrepreneurs and existing wine makers in Sikkim.
The Commerce & Industries Department, through such capacity-building initiatives, continues to support the development of technical expertise and innovation in food and beverage processing, while exploring new avenues for value-added products and entrepreneurship in the state.
