Special Coordination Meeting on NCORD Held at Yuksam Dubdi GPU under Yuksam BAC.
Yuksam, 29 September: A Special Coordination Meeting on the NCORD was held today at Yuksam Dubdi GPU, under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Panchayat President-cum-Sabha Adhyaksha, Mrs. Sunita Limboo, with Hon’ble Zilla Adhyaksha, Gyalshing District, Shri Ds Limboo, as the Chief Guest.
The meeting brought together public and former public representatives, officials from the Police, Health, Tourism and other concerned departments, NGOs, local clubs, Samaj organisations and community stakeholders, with the objective of strengthening grassroots coordination and fostering a more effective, community-driven response to drug-related concerns.
At the outset, BDO, Yuksam, Shri Sanman Subba, outlined the key agenda and emphasized the need for establishing GPU level NCORD Committees to further strengthen the Block-level NCORD mechanism. He also suggested placing confidential suggestion and reporting boxes at suitable locations to facilitate the safe and timely sharing of information and concerns.
Thereafter, Panchayat Inspector-cum-Block Level NCORD Committee Coordinator, Shri Dependra Gurung, delivered a brief presentation on the NCORD framework and functioning of the Block-level Committee. The presentation highlighted the objectives of NCORD, stakeholder responsibilities, coordinated information-sharing and the importance of timely intervention.
An open discussion followed, during which participants shared practical suggestions on strengthening community coordination, youth engagement, awareness and outreach programmes, monitoring and reporting mechanisms and facilitating access to confidential counselling, treatment and rehabilitation services.
SDM, Yuksam, Shri Jigme Bhutia, emphasized the importance of regular information-sharing and close coordination among departments and stakeholders. He called for a collective and team-based approach, along with effective utilisation of available counselling, treatment and rehabilitation facilities, while appreciating the ongoing efforts of the Committee.
Hon’ble Zilla Adhyaksha, Gyalshing District, Shri Dhan Singh Limboo, stressed the need for greater vigilance and systematic monitoring of persons entering the GPU area for employment, work or other engagements. He emphasized maintaining systematic and updated records at the GPU level, including their identity, purpose of engagement and nature of work, to strengthen local monitoring, accountability and timely coordination among concerned authorities.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen GPU and Block-level NCORD coordination, enhance community participation and vigilance, improve information-sharing and reporting mechanisms and ensure timely support for persons affected by substance use.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Hon’ble Vice President, Shri Karzang Bhutia, reaffirming the shared commitment towards building a safer, healthier and more resilient community.
