Golden Jubilee Celebration of Government Primary School, Tumin Barang enters its sixth day.
Tumin Barang, September 22: The Government Primary School, Tumin Barang, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee, with the theme - SANGAM: 50 years of learning, light and legacy; and honouring the contribution of the school to the community since its establishment in 1976. The fortnight long celebration to mark the important milestone began on 18th September at Barang, Lower Tumin, and will culminate with the closing ceremony on 5th October, 2026.
The inaugural programme was graced by Shri Samdup Tshering Bhutia, Hon’ble MLA, Tumin-Lingee Constituency, as the Chief Guest. Shri Phuchung Bhutia, Hon’ble Advisor, Government of Sikkim, along with other dignitaries, attended the programme as Guests of Honour.
On the inaugural day, Hon’ble MLA Shri Samdup Tshering Bhutia unveiled the official mascot of the Golden Jubilee Celebration, planted a sapling in the school premises and inaugurated the vertical extension of the Primary School, heralding a new chapter for the school and the village as a whole. The programme also had the presence of officers of the Education Department, Government of Sikkim.
The Golden Jubilee Celebration has been neatly curated by the organising committee and the School authority, featuring felicitation of land donors, former teachers, alumni, special invitees, synchronised with cultural presentation by students from various schools, sports activities and meaningful literary engagements to forge creativity and skills among students.
A major highlight of the celebration is the Golden Jubilee Open Volley Ball Tournament featuring a total of 30 teams from different parts of the State. The tournament has gained momentum over the days and is a key attraction and a source of motivation for people from all age groups.
On the second day, the Golden Jubilee Celebration was graced by noted engineer and philanthropist Shri Ganden Lachungpa, who inspired the organising team and the participants with words of wisdom and encouragement. Subsequently, on the third day, the Celebration was graced by Shri Bhim Thatal, Secretary, Labour Department, Government of Sikkim. As someone who hails from the same village, Shri Thatal is highly respected and looked upon as an inspiration, especially for the students and the youth, for the dedication and hard work through his entire career as an educationist and a bureaucrat. Likewise, the fourth day was made special with the gracious presence of Shri Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, Hon’ble Minister, Forest & Environment, Government of Sikkim, who expressed his gratitude to the School and the Organising team for the warm welcome and felicitation. He congratulated the school for achieving the milestone and assured every support for the development of the village in future. He also highlighted some of the unique initiatives of the State Government, especially in the health and eduction sector.
On the 5th day, the celebration was graced by Shri Pawan Parsai, NHPC Coordinator, Government of Sikkim, an entrepreneur, social worker and senior politician, while Shri C. B. Chhetri, entrepreneur and social worker, attended as the Guest of Honour.
Along with the chief guest, the Golden Jubilee Celebration has had the attendance of dignitaries from surrounding areas, alumni, senior citizens, school teachers, and individuals associated with the school.
As the Golden Jubilee Celebration progresses into the second week, various activities have been lined up to provide a meaningful platform to the students and the youth of the village and surrounding areas. The presence of eminent personalities from various walks of life has given a befitting tribute to Government Primary School, Barang, which has been silently serving the society for over five decades.
The celebration marks an important milestone in the school’s journey of 50 years of learning, service and community development, while reaffirming its commitment to nurturing future generations.
