Cape Town, South Africa, 15 September 2026: The Hon’ble Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa, who is also the lone Member from the India Region in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Small Branches Network, attended the workshop on “Parliament’s Role in Disaster Risk Financing” held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Cape Town.
The workshop brought together representatives of CPA Small Branches from across the Commonwealth to deliberate on the role of Parliaments in disaster risk financing, preparedness and building resilience against natural and other disasters.
The Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Smt. Raj Kumari Thapa, attended the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Conference workshop on “Intergenerational Equality: The Future of Parliamentary Democracy” held at the CTICC, Cape Town.
The workshop focused on the importance of intergenerational equality and strengthening inclusive and representative parliamentary democracy for future generations.
The delegates of the CPA Sikkim Branch also attended the plenary workshops of the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), including sessions on “Promoting Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue for Inclusive Fair Trade” and “Diverse and Accessible Parliaments: Inclusion of People with Disabilities. ”The sessions provided an important platform for parliamentarians to exchange views and experiences on strengthening parliamentary dialogue, inclusivity and accessibility.
The Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha Shri Harivansh, convened a briefing meeting with the Indian delegates at Hotel Taj, Cape Town.
