The 4th Annual Mani Dungdrup Chenmo 2026 Commences at Chenrezig Singkham Riwo Potala, Pelling.
The inaugural ceremony of the 4th Annual Mani Dungdrup Chenmo 2026, a seven-day-long mega prayer dedicated to peace, compassion and the well-being of all sentient beings, was held today at Chenrezig Singkham Riwo Potala, Pelling, Gyalshing District.
The annual Mani Dungdrup Chenmo is being organised by the Ecclesiastical Department, Government of Sikkim, with the continued leadership and encouragement of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang and the guidance of the Hon’ble Minister, Ecclesiastical Department, Ven. Sonam Lama. The observance reflects the Government’s continued commitment towards the preservation, promotion and strengthening of Sikkim’s rich religious and cultural heritage, as well as the values of peace, compassion and harmony.
The inaugural programme was attended by Mrs. Kincho Doma Lepcha, Secretary, Ecclesiastical Department, along with Shri Tenzing D. Denzongpa, District Collector, Gyalshing District and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing District, Ms. Paru Ruchal, besides officers and staff of the Ecclesiastical Department and devotees participating in the sacred congregation.
The annual Mani Dungdrup Chenmo is one of the significant religious observances organised by the Ecclesiastical Department, Government of Sikkim, with the active participation and support of the officers and staff of the Department. The prayer is being conducted under the spiritual guidance and leadership of His Eminence Kyabje Lachung Rinpoche and His Eminence Khentse Tulku of Yuksam, bringing together the Buddhist monastic community from different parts of the State for collective prayers and aspirations for peace, harmony and the welfare of humanity.
The seven-day-long Mani Dungdrup Chenmo is being conducted with the recitation of the Mani Mantra and other sacred prayers, invoking the blessings of Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), the embodiment of compassion. The gathering provides a significant spiritual platform for monks, nuns and devotees to collectively offer prayers for the removal of suffering, the prevalence of peace and harmony and the overall well-being and prosperity of all beings.
A major highlight of this year’s observance is the special dedication of the prayers to the victims and affected communities of the recent glacial flood disaster in Nepal. The collective prayers seek peace for those who have lost their lives, strength and solace for bereaved families and protection and recovery for all those affected by the disaster. The Department expresses the hope that the sacred prayers would contribute towards peace, healing and the well-being of the affected communities during this difficult period.
The annual Mani Dungdrup Chenmo has witnessed massive participation of monks and nuns from various monasteries across Sikkim. Their collective participation has further enriched the significance of the religious congregation and reaffirmed the spirit of unity, compassion and communal harmony.
The Ecclesiastical Department has been facilitating and organising the annual Mani Dungdrup Chenmo as part of its continued endeavour to preserve, promote and strengthen Sikkim’s rich religious and cultural heritage.
