Press Release from Nepal Flash Flood Task Force, Government of Sikkim

The Nepal Flash Flood Task Force, Government of Sikkim, is pleased to inform that all eight (08) Sikkim residents who were briefly stranded following the flash flood in Nepal on 26th August 2026, have safely reached their homes in Sikkim.
The Sikkim residents, members of a pilgrim group from Gangtok and Gyalshing districts on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, became stranded at Saga County, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. On receipt of this information, the Government of Sikkim immediately constituted the Nepal Flash Flood Task Force to monitor the group's welfare and coordinate with the concerned Central agencies for their safe return.
The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim personally intervened in the matter from the outset, directly establishing telephonic contact with the stranded group on 27th August 2026 to ascertain their safety and well-being, within a day of the disaster being reported. The matter was simultaneously taken up with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) to the Hon'ble Chief Minister remained in direct and continuous touch with the tour operator handling the group's Kailash Mansarovar Yatra itinerary, ensuring reliable, first-hand updates on the group's location and movement were made available to the State Government at every stage.
The eight (08) Sikkim residents affected by the disruption are: (1) Mr. Suresh Kr. Agarwal, (2) Mrs. Asha Devi Agarwal, (3) Mr. Surendra Kr. Agarwal, (4) Mrs. Chitra Devi Agarwal, (5) Mr. Bhawarlal Agarwal, (6) Mrs. Pushpa Devi Agarwal, (7) Mrs. Dhan Maya Chhetri, and (8) Mrs. Sabitri Chettri.
The State Government places on record its appreciation for the coordinated support extended by the concerned tour operator and other stakeholders.
The Nepal Flash Flood Task Force helplines constituted by the Government of Sikkim remain fully operational round-the-clock. Residents of Sikkim who have family members who are missing, stranded, or otherwise affected in Nepal are urged to contact the Task Force on the numbers below for immediate assistance:
