Block Level School Games in Athletics for U-17 Boys & Girls Commence in Soreng District.
Soreng, 9 September 2026: The Block Level School Games in Athletics for Under-17 Boys and Girls have commenced in Soreng District, beginning with Mangalbaria BAC, under the leadership of Shri Arjun Gurung, Assistant Director/D&DO, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Soreng District, along with the concerned officials, Physical Education Teachers, Physical Education Instructors and supporting staff SYAD Soreng District.
The School Games are being organized with the broader objective of promoting the holistic development of school students through active participation in sports and games. Participation in sports contributes significantly towards physical fitness and overall well-being while developing essential life skills such as goal-setting, teamwork, discipline, leadership and problem-solving. The programme also seeks to provide students with opportunities to compete at the Block, District, State and National levels, identify sporting talent and create a healthy and competitive sporting environment among schools.
In the present digital era, increasing dependence on computers, smartphones, video games and television has contributed to sedentary lifestyles among school-going children. The School Games therefore provide an important platform to keep children physically active, mentally alert and socially engaged, while nurturing leadership qualities, team spirit and a positive attitude towards physical education.
The Mangalbaria BAC competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from young athletes representing different schools. Based on their performance, the following athletes have been selected for participation at the District Level School Games:
