Sikkim and West Bengal Move Towards Stronger Cooperation in Animal Breeding and Livestock Development.
Kolkata, 08 August, 2026: In a significant initiative towards strengthening inter-state cooperation and institutional ties between Sikkim and West Bengal, Dr. Pratik Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, Sikkim Livestock Development Board (SLDB), Government of Sikkim, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Gauri Shankar Konar, Chief Executive Officer, Paschim Banga Go-Sampad Bikash Sanstha (PBGSBS), at his office in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
Dr. Kaushik Shah, Assistant Project Director (Cryo), PBGSBS, was also present during the meeting.
The meeting focused on exploring new avenues of cooperation between Sikkim and West Bengal in the field of animal breeding and livestock development. Various areas of mutual interest, including scientific animal breeding, genetic improvement, artificial insemination, frozen semen technology, cryogenic services, liquid nitrogen management, technical capacity building and other allied activities, were discussed in detail.
The interaction highlighted the importance of stronger coordination between neighbouring States for promoting scientific and sustainable livestock development and enhancing the delivery of modern breeding services to livestock farmers.
Dr. Gauri Shankar Konar assured the Sikkim Livestock Development Board of all possible cooperation and technical assistance from West Bengal in the field of animal breeding and allied activities. He expressed his willingness to facilitate greater institutional collaboration, technical exchange and sharing of expertise between the two States.
Dr. Pratik Sharma stated that Sikkim is committed to further strengthening its animal breeding infrastructure and services and that closer cooperation with West Bengal would provide valuable opportunities for technical collaboration, knowledge sharing and capacity enhancement. He further emphasized that such partnerships would ultimately benefit livestock farmers and contribute towards improving rural livelihoods.
The courtesy meeting marks a positive step towards establishing a stronger and more structured partnership between Sikkim and West Bengal in the livestock sector. The proposed cooperation is expected to open new avenues for joint efforts, technical support and exchange of expertise, further strengthening the development-oriented relationship between the two neighbouring States.
