Gangtok, August 26: Minister, Social Welfare Department, Shri Samdup Lepcha, graced the third match of the ongoing 1st Governor’s Archery Gold Cup (Compound) Tournament 2026 as the Chief Guest at Tathangchen Archery Field, Gangtok, today.
The match was played between Tathangchen Gold and Tathangchen Archery Club (Gangtok Red), with Tathangchen Gold emerging victorious in the day’s tie.
The tournament, which commenced on August 22, is being conducted on alternate days and has brought together archery teams from across the State, providing athletes with a competitive platform to showcase their skills and gain valuable exposure.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Samdup Lepcha appreciated the efforts of the Sikkim Archery Association in promoting compound archery and encouraging young talent in the State. He highlighted the importance of sports in developing discipline, concentration, precision, and a competitive spirit among the youth.
Compound archery is gaining prominence in Sikkim and offers promising athletes opportunities to develop their skills and compete at the State, national, and international levels. Such tournaments also contribute to strengthening grassroots participation and building a stronger sporting culture in the State.
The event was attended by Ven. Sonam Lama, President, Sikkim Archery Association; Shri KB Gurung, General Secretary, Sikkim Archery Association; Omsay Norbu Gyaltsen, Enchey Monastery; PCE Sansir Rai; and Secretary Shailendra Sharma, PHE Department, along with members of the archery fraternity and sports enthusiasts.
The ongoing Governor’s Archery Gold Cup reflects the growing popularity of compound archery in Sikkim and the continued efforts to nurture local talent and provide archers with greater opportunities to compete at various levels.
