Coordination Meeting on Sports Activities Held at Soreng District
​Soreng, 18 August 2026: A Coordination Meeting of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department (SYAD), Soreng District, with Coaches, Sports Coordinators, Physical Education Teachers (PETs), Physical Education Instructors (PEIs), and School Representatives was held today at the Indoor Gymnasium Hall, Soreng District, to discuss participation, preparation, and coordination for various forthcoming sports programmes.
​The meeting was chaired by Smt. Mamita Gurung, Deputy Director & Head of Office, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Soreng District. The meeting commenced with a welcome address proposed by Shri Bejoy Chettri, Data Entry Operator, SYAD, Soreng District, who welcomed all the officers, coaches, PETs, PEIs, and school representatives present on the occasion.
​Following the welcome address, Smt. Mamita Gurung highlighted the importance of collective participation and effective coordination for the successful implementation of the forthcoming sports programmes. She briefed the house on the participation and preparation for upcoming sports programmes, with particular emphasis on the National School Games 2026, Khelo Bharat Niti 2025, and National Sports Day 2026.
​Vision & Objectives of Khelo Bharat Niti 2025 ​Elaborating on the policy framework, Smt. Gurung highlighted that the core vision of Khelo Bharat Niti 2025 is:
​"Sports for Nation Building – Harness the Power of Sports for Nation's Holistic Development"
​She further shared the long-term goal of the sports fraternity: to transform the sporting ecosystem to systematically produce future Olympic and Asian Games Champions from the State.
​The key objectives and strategic directions discussed include:
​Grassroots Ecosystem Development: Strengthening the sporting culture and infrastructure from the grassroots level to the national stage to achieve global excellence.
​Systematic Talent Identification: Identifying promising young athletes early and supporting them through disciplined training, quality coaching, regular competition exposure, and continuous guidance.
​Socio-Economic Utility: Utilizing sports as a vital engine for economic growth, social development, and overall community well-being.
​Health & Fitness Movement: Transforming sports and regular physical fitness into a nationwide people's movement.
​Stakeholder Collaboration: Requiring all stakeholders—including schools, PETs, PEIs, coaches, Sports Coordinators, and the Department—to work with professional ethics, dedication, discipline, and coordinated teamwork.
​National School Games 2026
​In preparation for the National School Games 2026, the Deputy Director requested all PETs, PEIs, Coaches, and School Representatives to identify promising athletes and prepare strong teams in their respective disciplines. She emphasized the need for regular practice, proper player selection, disciplined training, and coordinated efforts so that the best athletes from Soreng District can represent the district and State at the national level.
​The Deputy Director informed the house that the National School Games 2026 at both BAC level and District level will be conducted from the second week of September 2026 onwards. She directed all concerned personnel to commence preparations well in advance and ensure the participation of eligible and talented students from all schools through their respective BACs.
​Special emphasis was also placed on Yoga as an integral part of sports and fitness development. All schools were encouraged to conduct regular Yoga activities to enhance physical fitness, mental well-being, concentration, and overall healthy living among students.
​National Sports Day 2026
​After detailed discussion, it was decided that National Sports Day programmes at the BAC level will be conducted from 27th to 29th August 2026 within their respective BACs. All schools in Soreng District shall participate through their respective BACs/Blocks, ensuring maximum participation of students and the wider school community.
​District-Level Celebration: The main District-Level National Sports Day Celebration will be held on 30th August 2026 at Jautar, Soreng District.
​Chief Minister's One-Mile Run: Identified as a compulsory event, all schools shall conduct and participate in the run as part of the National Sports Day activities.
​Weekly Fitness Initiative: It was resolved that the Chief Minister's One-Mile Run will continue every Saturday across all schools in Soreng District as a regular fitness initiative. Concerned schools will maintain participation records and submit reports through their respective BAC In-Charges of SYAD for district-level monitoring.
​Promotion of Fit India Movement
​The Deputy Director instructed all PETs, PEIs, Sports Coordinators, and Coaches to actively promote the Fit India Movement and make effective use of the Fit India Mobile App. She encouraged them to motivate students, teachers, and the broader community to adopt active, healthy lifestyles by participating in regular fitness activities and Yoga.
​Smt. Mamita Gurung expressed her sincere gratitude to the Chief Education Officer, Principals, and Headmasters/Headmistresses of the Education Department, Soreng District, for their ongoing support and coordination in strengthening sports and fitness initiatives.
​The meeting concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Shri D. B. Subba, Assistant Director, SYAD, Soreng District, who thanked all participants for their commitment and active cooperation toward advancing sports and youth development in the district.
