AYURVIDYA School Health Programme Conducted at Deorali Senior Secondary Girls School.
Gangtok, 29th July 2026: The Department of AYUSH, Government of Sikkim, through the 10-Bedded AYUSH Hospital, Sochakgang, successfully conducted the AYURVIDYA School Health Programme, an initiative under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM), at Deorali Senior Secondary Girls School, Deorali, Gangtok today.
The AYURVIDYA School Health Programme aims to inculcate healthy lifestyle practices among school children through the principles of AYUSH, with a focus on Dinacharya (daily regimen), Ritucharya (seasonal regimen), balanced nutrition, personal hygiene, mental and emotional well-being, physical fitness, stress management, and preventive healthcare. The programme seeks to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to adopt healthy habits from an early age, thereby contributing to their overall well-being and holistic development.
During the programme, an AYUSH awareness session was conducted highlighting the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle practices based on the principles of Ayurveda, Yoga, Sowa Rigpa, Homoeopathy and other AYUSH systems. Students were also provided with career counselling on AYUSH education and career opportunities, encouraging them to explore the growing prospects in the AYUSH sector.
Recognising the importance of creating healthy and responsible youth, the awareness sessions also aligned with the objectives of the Government of India’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan by sensitising students on the harmful effects of substance abuse and reinforcing the importance of making healthy life choices, building resilience, and leading an addiction-free life.
Similarly, the programme promoted the principles envisaged under Yoga 365 by encouraging students to incorporate yoga and mindfulness into their daily routine for improved physical health, mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall wellness. Practical de-stressing and relaxation techniques were also demonstrated to help students effectively manage academic and day-to-day stress.
AYUSH Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials were distributed to reinforce the key health messages, and an interactive quiz competition was organised to enhance student engagement and learning. Attractive prizes were awarded to the winners.
A total of 230 students participated in the programme, reflecting the Department of AYUSH’s continued commitment to promoting preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles, and holistic well-being among school children through the AYURVIDYA School Health Programme under the National AYUSH Mission, while complementing national initiatives that encourage wellness, yoga, and a drug-free society.
