Awareness Programme at Kamling Primary School.

The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Soreng District, in convergence with Kamling Primary School, successfully conducted an Awareness Programme at Kamling Primary School on 28th July 2026.
During the programme, Ms. Smriti Sharma, Gender Specialist, DHEW, delivered an introductory session on the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), highlighting its objectives, functions, and the various services available for women and children.
Ms. Nutan Lepcha, District Mission Coordinator (DMC), DHEW, spoke about the Women Helpline (WHL-181) and the One Stop Centre (OSC), explaining the support and assistance provided through these services. The Women Helpline number was also shared with the participants.
Ms. Nirmala Sharma ,Case Worker, CHL , conducted a session on the Child Helpline (CHL-1098), creating awareness about child protection laws, child Marriage and the importance of reporting cases instead of hiding abuse or neglect, and the sponsorship support available for children in need.
An interactive session on Good Touch and Bad Touch was conducted by Ms. Eleena Gurung, Accounts Assistant, DHEW , with students where children actively participated and learned about personal safety, identifying safe and unsafe touch, and the importance of seeking help from trusted adults. The children were also informed about the Child Helpline Number – 1098 for immediate assistance.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session followed by a vote of thanks by Biren Subba , Welfare Inspector,DHEW. The event was attended by the Panchayat President, School Headmaster ,Self-Help Group (SHG) members, local residents, school staff, and officials from DHEW, Soreng District.
