CME Highlights New Advances in the Treatment of Bipolar Disorder
The Department of Psychiatry, New STNM Multispeciality Hospital, successfully organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme at Hotel Sinclairs, Gangtok, on July 21, 2026, focusing on two emerging psychopharmacological agents—Lumateperone and Endoxifen.
The academic event brought together psychiatrists and mental health professionals from across the state to discuss the evolving role of these newer molecules in the management of bipolar disorder.
The primary objective of the CME was to update clinicians on the latest scientific evidence and real-world clinical experience regarding the use of Lumateperone and Endoxifen in the treatment of bipolar depression, acute mania, and impulsivity.
The programme emphasized the importance of adopting evidence-based approaches to improve treatment outcomes while ensuring patient safety and tolerability.
The scientific sessions were delivered by Dr. C. S. Sharma and Dr. Satish Rasaily, who presented the pharmacological mechanisms of these newer medications, reviewed recent clinical studies, and shared their clinical experiences.
The speakers highlighted that Lumateperone has shown promise in the treatment of bipolar depression with a favourable tolerability profile, while Endoxifen has emerged as a novel option for the management of acute mania and may have potential benefits in reducing impulsivity in selected patients.
The speakers stressed that although these newer therapies are encouraging, treatment decisions should always be individualized and guided by current scientific evidence and clinical judgment.
The CME was chaired by Dr. C. L. Pradhan and moderated by Dr. Bishnu Sharma, who facilitated engaging discussions throughout the programme.
