NCC is a strong institution of nation building; disciplined youth is the base of a developed India: Honourable Governor
Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim Mr. Om Prakash Mathur honoured the 'Governor' Medal' to NCC cadets who excelled in various training and activities during the academic year 2025-26 at a function held at Lokbhavan today.
Medals, testimonials and cash incentive amounts were awarded to 1,3 and 4 Sikkim Battalions from various schools and colleges associated with Sikkim Government's Education Department and NCC Group Headquarters, Darjeeling and Sikkim, were awarded to total of 43 meritorious cadets from various schools and colleges associated with NCC.
The ceremony started with the 'Guard of Honour' given to the Governor by NCC cadets despite the rain. After this, Dr. Chief Secretary of the Education Department. Sandeep Tambe welcomed all guests. On this occasion Sikkim Government Education, Sports, Youth Affairs, Law & Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr. Raju Basnet, Additional Director General of NCC West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate Major General A.P.S. Chahal (Army Medal) and Group Commander of Darjeeling and Sikkim Group Brigadier Vivek Malik along with School Education Secretary Mr. Tashi Chopel, Commanding Officers of all three battalions of Sikkim NCC, ANO, Principal of various educational institutions, Associate NCC Officers, Education Department officers were present.
Major General A.P.S. Chahal, in his address, briefed on NCC training, adventure activities, community service and personality development programs.
The Governor awarded 18 Gold, 15 Silver and 10 Bronze Medals to the outstanding performing cadets during the ceremony. Also, the Associate NCC Officer (ANO) of Sikkim Government Science College, Chakung was honored with the 'Award of Excellence' for his remarkable contribution in NCC activities. The Governor also presented souvenirs to ADG, NCC, Group Commander and commanding officers of all three battalions for cooperation in the successful operation of NCC activities.
In his address, the Governor congratulated and congratulated all the 43 NCC cadets and ANOs who received the 'Governor' medal. He said that NCC is a strong nation building organization, developing life values such as discipline, leadership capacity, character building, service spirit and patriotism in youth. Is it. He emphasized that the role of NCC in the border state Sikkim is even more important.
The Governor urged the Department of Education to ensure the expansion of NCC in educational institutions, especially in remote and border areas, so that more and more youth of the state can get the opportunity to connect with this organization and leadership development. He urged the Hon'ble Education Minister to complete the establishment of NCC Group Headquarters in the state. Also, he assured that it would provide high-level NCC training to more youth in the state and make the organization's access even wider.
The Governor also emphasised the active and effective participation of NCC cadets in the ongoing public-awareness campaigns against drugs, and said that it is possible to create a drug-free, healthy and aware society only with the support of the youth power.
The Governor called on the cadets to persevere towards their life goals and continuously move forward with enthusiasm, struggle and dedication. He said mental perseverance along with physical fitness is equally essential for national service, as it is the basis of effective leadership, confidence and success in opposite circumstances.
He expressed confidence that the disciplined, capable and patriotic youth will play a crucial role in realizing Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji's resolution of 'Developed India @2047' and NCC cadets will be the pioneers of this national transformation.
