Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2026 – Day 11 Observed Across Gangtok Division
Gangtok, 11 July 2026: As part of the ongoing Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2026, the Gangtok Division of the Forest and Environment Department, Government of Sikkim, continued its series of plantation and environmental conservation activities across various ranges on the eleventh day of the celebration.
At Singtam Range, roadside plantation maintenance was carried out from Tirkutam Chamerey Khosa to Lhasa Kholsa in collaboration with the Himali Ekta Samaj of Tirkutam PW, Beng Phegyong GPU, Martam-Rumtek Constituency. During the programme, the organisation adopted the orange plantation established under the State Government's visionary "Mero Bato Mero Bot" initiative during Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2025, reflecting a strong sense of community ownership and long-term environmental stewardship.
Under the Gangtok Range, a plantation drive was organised at the Rongyek State Prison Compound by the Olympic Association of Sikkim in the presence of Hon'ble Forest Minister Shri Pintso Namgyal Lepcha and Hon'ble Minister Shri Raju Basnett. The programme was coordinated by GRO (T) Gangtok and attended by the DFO (T) Gangtok.
Simultaneously, the Sherpa Association of Sikkim conducted an avenue plantation drive from Organic Dara to Ganesh Tok in the presence of Shri Sangay Sherpa, Advisor, Forest & Environment Department.
As part of the Mero Rukh Mero Santati (MRMS) initiative, plantation programmes were also organised at Samdong Mintokgang Gumpa, YALI Reserved Forest, and Ranka Block. The plantations were dedicated to newborns, and MRMS certificates along with Sikkim Shishu Samriddhi Yojana (SSSY) passbooks were distributed to the beneficiaries. The MRMS plantation programme was held in the august presence of MLA Shri Samdup Tshering Bhutia and attended by the ACF (T) Gangtok and RO (T) Gangtok.
Under the Ranipool Range, the Mero Bato Mero Bot plantation programme was successfully organised at Upper Nandok in the presence of the Hon'ble Area MLA-cum-Advisor, Forest & Environment Department, the Zilla Panchayat Member, DFO (T) Gangtok, departmental officials, and local residents.
As part of the programme, indigenous tree species were planted along the Nandok PWD Road Reserve to enhance roadside greenery and promote ecological conservation.
In addition, nine MRMS passbooks were distributed, and an MRMS plantation activity was carried out at Nimthang on private holding land in accordance with the wishes of the parents of the newborn, Lavanya Neshele Pradhan. A total of 108 saplings of Pani Saj, Malagari, and Cherry were planted, reaffirming the MRMS initiative's commitment to planting 108 saplings for every newborn. This initiative symbolizes a lasting bond between new life and environmental stewardship, reflecting a shared commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
Meanwhile, Kyongnosla Range organized a plantation drive with the active participation of the Former Legislators Federation of Sikkim in support of the Hon'ble Chief Minister's Mission Million Oak Trees by 2047, further strengthening the collective commitment towards environmental conservation and a greener, more sustainable Sikkim.
