Date: July 11, 2026
Newly elected executive members of the Press Club of Sikkim paid a courtesy visit to Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim Mr. Om Prakash Mathur, under the leadership of President Mr. Sameer Hong Limbu at Lok Bhawan today.
During this meeting, the Chairman briefed the Governor about the activities and works of Press Club of Sikkim. During the conversation, the Governor congratulated the President and other executive members. He stressed on exposing Sikkim's rich identity from journalists and other development works in national media. He also emphasized the need to uphold the core values of journalism in times and circumstances.
Mentioning the 1967 clash between India and China, the Governor said, "Many of our countrymen are still unaware of Sikkim's rich military history and various other facts, where India fought against China under the brave leadership of Major General Sagat Singh and had to win. Such a 'bravery saga' of the armed forces should be shown prominently in the media to inspire youth and strengthen the spirit of patriotism. "
The Hon'ble Governor further said that there are immense possibilities in various areas of Sikkim that need to be publicised and disseminated nationally. Mr. Governor, talking about the digital age of journalism, said there has been a revolution that has renewed 'journalism'. He told the internet is a powerful medium of change and that this media offers unlimited opportunities to broadcast news in real-time. He urged journalists to use these platforms responsibly for extensive coverage of the state.
Meanwhile, the Chairman formally invited the Governor to join as the Chief Guest on the 24th Foundation Day of the Press Club of Sikkim to be held on 17th July of this month.
