Gyalshing, 7 July: On the occasion of ‘A Day for Mother Earth’, a plantation drive was organised by the Hee Patal, Bermiok Martam, Begha Mangmoo, and Uttarey Eco-Development Committees (EDCs) under Dentam Wildlife Range. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Presidents and members of the respective EDCs, who actively joined hands with the Forest Department in carrying out the plantation activities.
The plantation drive was undertaken with the objective of promoting environmental conservation, enhancing green cover, and creating awareness among local communities about the importance of protecting forests and restoring degraded landscapes. Participants planted suitable indigenous tree species in designated areas and reaffirmed their commitment towards safeguarding the region’s rich biodiversity.
During the programme, the members were briefed on the significance of afforestation, the ecological importance of native forests, and the crucial role played by local communities in ensuring the long-term protection and maintenance of newly planted saplings. The programme also served as a platform to strengthen the partnership between the Forest Department and the Eco-Development Committees in achieving the shared goal of sustainable forest management and wildlife conservation.
The active involvement and dedication displayed by the EDC members reflected their strong sense of environmental responsibility and community stewardship. The plantation drive concluded with a collective pledge to nurture and protect the planted saplings, ensuring their healthy growth and contributing towards a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient future.
