Soreng, 7 July 2026: As part of the observance of "A Day for Mother Earth 2026," the Forest and Environment Department, Soreng Territorial Division, organized a plantation drive , located above the Veterinary Office Complex in Soreng Reserve Forest, to reinforce the collective commitment towards environmental conservation and ecological restoration.
The programme commenced with the observance of a district-wide vehicular stoppage from 11:00 a.m. to 11:07 a.m., symbolizing unity and collective responsibility towards protecting Mother Earth.
The plantation drive was attended by District Collector-cum-District Magistrate, Soreng District. Also present were representatives from the Roads and Bridges Department, Medical Officer from PHC Soreng, representatives from the Sports Department, Mr. Erastus Lepcha, Additional Political Secretary to the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Mr. Rajen Basnet, OSD to Hon'ble MLA, Soreng-Chakung Constituency, the CLC President, Soreng-Chakung, Panchayat members, representatives of the Nagar Panchayat, members of the public, and officials and staff of the Forest Department.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from all stakeholders, reflecting the shared commitment of the administration, public representatives, and local community towards environmental protection. The plantation drive contribute to enhancing the green cover of the area while promoting awareness on the importance of conserving forests and safeguarding the environment for future generations.
The Forest Department expressed its gratitude to all departments, public representatives, and citizens who participated in making the observance of A Day for Mother Earth 2026 a meaningful and successful initiative.
