Cooperative Week Celebration 2026
Soreng, July 4: As part of the Cooperative Week Celebration 2026, the Soreng District Cooperation Department successfully organised a Panel Discussion on 3rd July 2026 at Hotel Orchid Conference Hall, Soreng, under the overall theme "Cooperatives for a Peaceful World." The discussion focused on "Youth and Women Engagement in Cooperatives in Sikkim."
The programme was graced by distinguished panellists:
1. Smt Shanti Limboo, Chairperson, Sikkim State Consumer Cooperative Society.
2. Smt Matilda Gurung, Board of Director, SIMFED.
3. Shri DR Sharma, Board of Director, Sikkim Milk Union and Retired Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
The panel discussion was moderated by Shri Indra Mani Adhikari, JRCS, Head Office.
The programme was attended by Shri PD Bhutia, Additional Registrar of Cooperative Societies (ARCS), Soreng; Smt Moti Rai, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies (JRCS); Smt Durga Devi Chettri, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies (ARCS); Shri Sishir Raj Gurung; Shri Youngchot Hang Subba, Audit Officer; Shri Dinesh Dahal, Board of Director, Sikkim Milk Union; Former Panchayat representative, the President of Buriakhop Fish Farming Cooperative Society, Presidents and Managers of Buriakhop, Zoom, Singling and Khanisirbong MPCS Ltd., along with officials and staff of the Soreng District Cooperation Department.
The programme commenced with anchoring by Shri Bikash Tamang, Cooperative Inspector, followed by the traditional presentation of khadas and bouquets to the distinguished guests by the Additional Registrar and Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Soreng.
A warm welcome address was delivered by Smt Durga Devi Chettri, ARCS. This was followed by a brief address from Smt Moti Rai, JRCS, highlighting the significance of Cooperative Week Celebration, the cooperative principles and values, and the important role of cooperatives in sustainable development.
The interactive panel discussion, led by the moderator, encouraged meaningful deliberations on strengthening the participation of youth and women in cooperatives. The panellists shared valuable insights and recommendations, emphasising the empowerment of women, greater youth involvement, the role of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and the inclusion of cooperative education in school curricula to promote cooperative values from an early age.
As a gesture of appreciation, the panellists were felicitated with tokens of love and gratitude for their valuable contributions.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Shri Sonam Tshering Lepcha, Cooperative Inspector, expressing sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, panelists, participants, and all those who contributed to the successful organization of the event.
