REPORT ON SIKKIM PARYAVARAN PARVA, 2026
"LEAVE A GREEN LEGACY"
GYALSHING TERRITORIAL RANGE
Day 3: 3rd July 2026
Under the ongoing Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2026 celebration with the theme “Leave a Green Legacy,” the third day's programme was organised at Gadditar, with a primary focus on casualty replacement plantation and the upkeep of the Mero Rukh Mero Santati (MRMS) plantation site. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the officers and staff of the Gyalshing Territorial Range, along with members and representatives of the Changey Bongten Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) and Changey Bongten Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU). Their active involvement reflected a strong spirit of collaboration and a shared commitment to environmental protection and sustainable forest conservation.
A plantation drive was conducted under the "Mero Rukh Mero Santati" (MRMS) initiative, which promotes planting a tree in the name of every newborn child. The programme also incorporated the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, encouraging participants to dedicate a tree to their mothers as a heartfelt tribute while fostering environmental responsibility. A total of 200 saplings, including 100 oak saplings and 100 associated tree species, were planted during the programme. In addition, casualty replacement plantation was undertaken under the MRMS initiative to replace saplings that had failed to survive from previous plantation efforts. This activity aimed to enhance plantation success, maintain optimum stocking density, and further strengthen the area's green cover.
Following the plantation drive, extensive maintenance activities were carried out across the MRMS plantation site to ensure the healthy establishment of the young saplings. These operations included weeding around the plants, clearing unwanted vegetation, soil working, watering wherever required, and tending the saplings to improve their growth and survival. The maintenance work was jointly executed by the Forest Department personnel, the Bongten JFMC, and the Changey Bongten GPU, demonstrating their collective responsibility towards the long-term sustainability of the plantation.
The third day's programme concluded on a successful note with the wholehearted participation of all the stakeholders. The combined efforts of the Forest Department, Bongten JFMC, and Changey Bongten GPU reaffirmed their unwavering dedication to conserving and enriching the region's forest resources, thereby advancing the vision of "Leave a Green Legacy."
