XVIIth State Level Athletics Meet 2026 Commences at Khel Gaon, Reshithang
Gangtok, June 4 : The XVIIth State Level Athletics Meet 2026 commenced today at Khel Gaon, Reshithang, Gangtok, bringing together athletes from across the State for a three-day showcase of sporting excellence and competitive spirit.
The championship was formally inaugurated by the Chairman of the Sikkim Sport Development Board, Shri Rinzing Wangyal Chopel, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. The inaugural ceremony was also attended by the Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs Department GoS Ms Yangchen D Tamang, President of the Sikkim Athletic Association, Shri Tenzing Loden Lepcha, IPS, along with officials, coaches, athletes and sports enthusiasts.
The State Athletics Meet, organised by the Sikkim Athletic Association, serves as the premier athletics championship in the State and provides a platform for athletes to compete in various track and field events while promoting sportsmanship, discipline and excellence in athletics.
Following the ceremonial flag-off, competitions commenced across multiple disciplines, with participants representing their respective districts displaying determination and talent on the field.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest extended his best wishes to all participating athletes and commended the efforts of the Sikkim Athletic Association in promoting athletics and nurturing young sporting talent in the State.
The championship will continue over the next two days, featuring a wide range of track and field events. The meet is expected to play a significant role in identifying promising athletes for future state and national-level competitions.
The Sikkim Athletic Association has expressed confidence that the event will further strengthen the culture of athletics in the State while providing aspiring athletes with valuable competitive exposure.
