Sikkim Athletics Association Congratulates Indian Team and Team Manager Rajiv Roka on Outstanding Asian U20 Championships Campaign.
Gangtok, June 2: The Sikkim Athletics Association (SAA) extends its sincere congratulations to the Indian contingent for its exceptional performance at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships held in Hong Kong, where India achieved an impressive second-place finish in the overall medal standings with a total of 19 medals, comprising 10 gold, five silver and four bronze medals.
The Association expresses particular pride in the appointment of its General Secretary, Mr Rajiv Roka, as Team Manager of the Indian contingent for this prestigious continental championship. Under his leadership and management, the young Indian athletes delivered one of the nation’s most successful performances in recent editions of the competition, attaining their highest gold medal tally in recent years and setting several championship, national and junior national records.
India’s campaign demonstrated remarkable depth and excellence across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including sprints, relays, middle-distance races, race walking, jumps, throws and combined events. Among the notable achievements were Pooja Singh’s national and championship records in the women’s high jump, gold medal victories in the men’s and women’s distance events, outstanding performances in field events, and record-setting displays in relay competitions.
The championships also featured exceptional performances in the decathlon, long jump, high jump, discus throw and steeplechase events, underscoring the continued advancement of Indian athletics at the grassroots and developmental levels.
The Sikkim Athletics Association notes that Mr Rajiv Roka’s selection as Team Manager represents recognition of his longstanding contributions to athletics administration and athlete development. Over the years, he has played a significant role in promoting athletics in Sikkim and has been actively engaged in nurturing young talent, strengthening institutional frameworks and enhancing the profile of the sport within the State.
The Association further states that Mr Roka’s successful leadership of the Indian contingent at a championship of this stature is a source of immense pride not only for the athletics community but also for the people of Sikkim.
