Gangtok, 28th May: Gangtok District Zilla Panchayat (GDZP), Rural Development Department, Government of Sikkim, organised a Meeting cum Assessment & Characterisation of Plastic Waste Management at the Martam Block Administrative Centre, today.
The programme was chaired by Mr Sonam G. Bhutia District Project Officer, Gangtok District Zilla Panchayat (GDZP) and attended by Panchayat Presidents, Panchayat Members from various GPUs under Gangtok District, Mr Sonam Palden Bhutia Block Development Officer, Martam Block, Under Secretary (GDZP), Rakam (State IMIS Expert) as Resource Person from Head Office, Junior Engineer (SPCB), Panchayat Inspectors, PDAs and other officials.
The meeting focused on awareness and implementation of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2024, assessment and characterisation of plastic waste, segregation at source, proper waste disposal mechanisms and annual reporting procedures. During the session, the resource persons highlighted the importance of community participation, environmental protection and effective waste management practices at the grassroots level. Queries raised by the participants were also addressed during the interactive session.
The programme concluded successfully with active participation and cooperation from all stakeholders.
