Field Visit Conducted at Rey Mendu GPU under Ranka BAC
A field visit was conducted today at Tempyam Ward under Rey Mendu Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU), Martam–Rumtek Constituency, by the District Administration led by Shri Agawane Rohan Ramesh, IAS, District Collector, Gangtok.
The inspection team comprised the Joint Director, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Block Development Officer, Assistant Engineer, Ranka Block Administrative Centre (BAC), concerned Revenue Inspector and Revenue Surveyor, Disaster Management staff engaged in the respective GPU, concerned Panchayat President, Zilla Member, Ward Panchayat, and local stakeholders. The visit focused on assessing infrastructure vulnerabilities, public safety concerns, and developmental requirements within the area.
During the inspection, the team visited key public institutions, including the Village Level Worker (VLW) Office, Primary Health Centre (PHC), Junior High School, ICDS Anganwadi Centre, Veterinary Dispensary, and homestays within the villages. Several structural and environmental concerns were identified, including waterlogging, roof leakage, wall seepage, and slope instability, which may adversely affect public safety, service delivery, and institutional infrastructure.
The team also inspected the road stretch connecting Ranka and Rey, particularly the section above the ITBP area, where unregulated surface runoff has caused damage to the roadway and adjoining protection wall.
On-site directions were issued by the District Collector to the concerned contractor and executing agencies for immediate corrective measures, with special emphasis on temporary drainage management, slope stabilisation to ensure uninterrupted movement for essential transportation, and long-term mitigation measures.
The District Administration reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety, strengthening rural infrastructure, and undertaking timely interventions in vulnerable areas through coordinated departmental action.
