Mission Sikkim Organics Launched During 51st State Day Celebration
Gangtok, May 16, 2026: On the occasion of the 51st State Celebration Day, a unique initiative of Mission Sikkim Organics, to strengthen the value chain of farmers produce of Large cardamum, Tumeric, Ginger and Buckwheat and other Agriculture and Horticulture crops of Sikkim was launched by the Hon’ble Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, Hon’ble Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur, Hon’ble Union Minister for DoNER Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, MDoNER, NEC officials and other State dignitaries at Manan Kendra.The framework of the initiative devised between the State and MDoNER, has a 3 year investment cycle valued at 335-360 crores and shall draw central sector funds from related Central Government ministries of MDoNER, Agriculture and farmers Welfare, Ministry of Food Processing, ICAR,APEDA, NEREMAC, NABARD and Private Sectors.
The State as a fully Organic State since 2016 had a critical gap in the value chain, especially in processing, certification and marketing of organic commodities to markets in Europe, Middle East, Japan and USA, which shall now be addressed by the above multistakeholder convergence initiative. The Union Minister of MDoNER in his address to the State Day gathering, highlighted the contours of the Plan including cold storage, district organic yards, better aggregation, yield improvement in priority crops, traceability, certifications, and export promotion and further reiterated his commitment to the new program, which aims boost Organic farming in Sikkim and improve farmers income .
