The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organised a National Consultative Workshop and Review Meeting on “Developing Tourist Destinations to Global Standards” at Kevadia on 11th and 12th May 2026. The workshop was chaired by the Hon’ble Minister for Tourism and Culture, Government of India, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, accompanied by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Tourism, Shri Suresh Gopi. The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, representatives from States/UT Administrations, industry stakeholders and tourism experts from across the country.
During the workshop, the Hon’ble Union Minister emphasised the importance of integrated planning, sustainability, ease of doing business, destination management and stakeholder participation for the development of world-class tourist destinations in India.
The workshop featured a series of technical sessions and deliberations focusing on tourism infrastructure development, adventure tourism frameworks, destination management, MICE promotion, digital tourism marketing and sustainable tourism practices. States and Union Territories also presented their respective strategies and proposals for developing globally competitive tourism destinations.
The State of Sikkim was represented by the PCE-cum-Secretary, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim, Shri Neeraj Pradhan, who presented the State’s vision under the initiative. The presentation highlighted Sikkim’s commitment to sustainable, high-value, and globally competitive tourism development, with an emphasis on environmentally responsible infrastructure, experiential tourism, and destination-based planning aligned with national tourism priorities.
