REPORT ON THE ONGOING PROGRESS OF WORK ALONG NH-310 GANGTOK BYPASS ROAD.
The ongoing construction work of the Two-Lane Gangtok Bypass Road with Paved Shoulder from Ranipool to Burtuk under NH-310 is presently in its final stage of completion. The project is being executed under the Annual Plan 2021–22 on EPC Mode.
Project Details:
* Name of Work: Construction of Two Lane with Paved Shoulder Gangtok Bypass Road from Ranipool to Burtuk (Chainage 0.00 Km to 23.316 Km)
* Job No.: 10/SK/2021-22/06
* State: Sikkim
* NH No.: 310
* Length: 23.316 Km
* Category of Road: 2-Lane with Paved Shoulder
* Authority Engineer: Chief Engineer (NH-SPWD)
* Contractor: M/s SM Infrabuild (JV)
* Date of Commencement: 23.05.2022
* Scheduled Date of Completion: 31.03.2026
* Extended Date of Completion: 30.11.2026 (as applied to the Ministry)
At present, the project has achieved approximately 90% physical progress, with nearly 20 km of carpeted road length completed. However, certain portions of work have experienced delays due to the ongoing process of additional land acquisition through the Bhoomi Rashi Portal, which has presently reached the stage of 3G notification under the NH Act, 1956.
The affected stretches include:
* Chainage 6+400 to 6+730
* Chainage 11+600 to 12+200 (Sangtong Village, Ranka Block)
These pending areas involve hill cutting works, barbing block construction, site development, and subsurface works.
Despite intermittent disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions, the work is progressing steadily. Subject to favourable weather conditions, the remaining works are expected to be completed within the next three (3) months.
Except for the above-mentioned affected stretches, the remaining portions of the road are fully functional and open for vehicular movement. Necessary safety measures and continuous monitoring are being maintained to minimise inconvenience to commuters during the execution period.
A site inspection was conducted on 11th May 2026 by Mr. Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, Additional Political Secretary to the Government of Sikkim, accompanied by:
* Mrs. Karma Diki Bhutia, Assistant Engineer (NH), Roads & Bridges Department
* Ms. Prabina Pradhan, Junior Engineer
* Mr. P.K. Jha, Engineer and representative of M/s SM Infrabuild (JV)
During the inspection, the team reviewed the ongoing progress of works along NH-310, including the status of road cutting activities and the overall functionality of the roadway in the project area
