District Level Workshops under the Special Numeracy Programme.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Education Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with Jodo Gyan, successfully conducted District Level Workshops under the Special Numeracy Programme across all six districts of the State. The workshops were organised with the objective of strengthening foundational numeracy practices in Government schools and preparing teachers for effective implementation of assessment-based learning in Classes 1, 2, and 3.
The workshops were conducted for 118 members of the State Resource Group (SRG), who will further train teachers from 764 Government schools across Sikkim.
The training focused on preparing SRGs to conduct orientation programmes for teachers on the administration of the Term-I Assessment scheduled to be conducted in the month of June 2026 in their respective schools. Emphasis was laid on classroom-based assessment practices, student learning outcomes, activity-based pedagogy, and effective monitoring mechanisms to improve foundational numeracy among young learners.
The State-level workshops were coordinated by Shri Rajiv Philip from SCERT. The programme also witnessed the active participation and support of faculty members from SCERT and DIETs across all six districts.
The district-wise schedule and coordinators of the workshops were as follows:
• Mangan District (29–30 April 2026) – Coordinated by SCERT and DIET faculty.
• Namchi District (5–6 May 2026) – Coordinated by Rajiv Philip from SCERT.
• Soreng District (5–6 May 2026) – Coordinated by Mr. Dhiraj Chettri from DIET Gyalshing.
• Gangtok District (6–7 May 2026) – Coordinated by Mr. Deoraj Sharma from DIET Gangtok.
• Gyalshing District (7–8 May 2026) – Coordinated by Ms. Sadhna Gurung from DIET Gyalshing.
• Pakyong District (7–8 May 2026) – Coordinated by Mr. Dhiraj Sharma from SCERT and Mr. Binod Basnett from DIET Gangtok.
The Education Department expressed appreciation to all SCERT and DIET faculty members, State Resource Group members, and collaborating partner Jodo Gyan for their dedicated efforts towards strengthening foundational numeracy education in the State.
The Department remains committed to ensuring quality learning outcomes for all children through continuous teacher support, capacity building, and effective classroom practices under the Special Numeracy Programme.
