Nikshay Shivir and COTPA 2003 Awareness Campaign Conducted at JNV Pakyong.
Pakyong, April 6: The Health & Family Welfare Department, Pakyong District, successfully organized a Nikshay Shivir (TB Detection Camp) along with an awareness campaign on the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003 at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Pakyong.
The program witnessed active participation from students, with approximately 200 students screened during the TB detection camp. The initiative aimed to promote early diagnosis of tuberculosis and raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use among adolescents.
The program was initiated by Dr. Eden Lepcha, DMS, Health & Family Welfare, Pakyong District, who emphasized the importance of maintaining good health during adolescence and highlighted the role of Nikshay Shivir in early detection and prevention of tuberculosis.
The screening camp was carried out by a medical team comprising Dr. Nischay Basnett (Dental Surgeon), Sameer Rai (Pharmacist), Sabina Rai (Staff Nurse), and Manoj Dhakal (Radiographer). A new digital X-ray facility was utilised for efficient and accurate screening of the students.
An awareness session on COTPA 2003 was conducted by Dr. Digcha Shree Rai, Program Coordinator, NTCP Pakyong District. She sensitised students about the provisions of the Act, common violations, and the serious health risks associated with tobacco consumption at an early age. She also encouraged students to support the initiative of making the school campus a tobacco-free educational institution under the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign.
The program concluded successfully with a strong message on the importance of early health screening, disease prevention, and adopting a tobacco-free lifestyle.
