Day 1 of Highway Coverage Drive under Mission Clean Sky
Gangtok, 1st April 2026: A joint inspection was conducted from Domino’s, .Ranipool towards Sikkim University under the leadership of the Assistant Collector, Gangtok, along with officials from Smart City, GMC, Power, PHE, Forest and Police departments, and representatives from ISPs.
The inspection marks the initiation of underground cable laying work and the removal of existing overhead cables. This drive will map out the entire stretch of underground ducts, and all concerns of departments and ISPs will be resolved so that the work of undergrounding all wires along the Highway can go ahead smoothly.
The drive will continue for almost 10 days, covering the entire stretch up to Vajra, Gangtok.
Data of poles that shall be removed with the undergrounding of wires:
Jio – 48 poles
BSNL – 12 poles
Airtel – 42 poles
NFS – 63 poles
The drive may cause some inconvenience to the public on the sidewalk along the highway. Cooperation and goodwill of the public are solicited.
