Nikhare IAS,Gangtok, to review and streamline road-related works being undertaken by various executing agencies in the district and  in compliance of the writ petition no. 18 of 2010, Court on Suo Moto vs The Secretary, Ministry of Surface Transport and others.
The meeting was attended by the Amicus Curiae, Mr. Tashi Rapten Barfungpa; ADC Gangtok, Mr. Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia; General Manager, NHIDCL; along with engineers and representatives from PHED, PMGSY, Roads and Bridges Department, and NH Wing.
The primary focus of the meeting was on addressing the issue of duplication of work being carried out by multiple agencies along the same road stretches, leading to inefficiencies, resource wastage, and inconvenience to the public. Detailed deliberations were held to ensure better coordination, information sharing, and advanced planning among all departments to avoid overlapping of work.
In this regard, all executing agencies were directed to strictly adhere to coordinated planning mechanisms and to share project timelines in advance so as to minimize repeated excavation and disruption of roads.
Further, the committee emphasised the importance of transparency and public awareness. Directions were issued for the installation of Information Boards equipped with QR Codes along stretches of NH-10 as well as internal roads. These QR Codes will enable the general public to access key details of ongoing works, including the executing agency, nature of work, duration, and contact information, thereby promoting accountability and ease of information dissemination. DC Gangtok also directed all road executing agencies to install lighting in dark spots along the NH-10 or internal roads.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to enhance inter-departmental coordination and ensure efficient, transparent, and citizen-friendly execution of road infrastructure projects in Gangtok district.
