Soreng, March 26: In a significant move to bolster local entrepreneurship and preserve traditional craftsmanship, a comprehensive "Training on Bamboo Handicrafts" was officially inaugurated at the Government Livelihood School in Mangalbaria.
​The program is being held under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme, an initiative of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. The training is organised by the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, in technical collaboration with the Positron Computer Education Institute.
​Distinguished Attendance and Vision:
​The inaugural ceremony was graced by several key local leaders and government officials, highlighting the community-driven nature of the initiative. Key attendees included:
​Mr Niraj Dong, Panchayat President of Takuthang Ward.
​Mr Yogesh Sharma, Inspector, Commerce & Industries Department, Soreng.
​Speaking at the event, the officials emphasised that bamboo is not just a natural resource but a "green gold" that can transform the rural economy of Sikkim. The RAMP scheme aims to provide local artisans with the necessary design interventions and market linkages to scale their small-scale businesses into competitive enterprises.
​Objectives of the Training:
​The primary goal of this workshop is to upgrade the skill sets of local youth and traditional artisans. Participants will be trained in:
​Advanced bamboo cutting and treatment techniques.
​Modern product design for contemporary markets.
​Leveraging digital tools for business management, supported by Positron Computer Education Institute.
