Namch8, 26 March : Department of Civil Engineering, Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology (SIST), Chisopani, in collaboration with BALKAPSO Construction, is organising a Workshop-cum-Refresher Course on “Quality Concrete, Resilient Construction & Retrofitting in Hilly Region” scheduled from 16th to 18th April 2026. The programme is being conducted under the convenorship of Prof. (Dr.) B. B. Pradhan, Principal-cum-Director, SIST, with Ms. Pemila Bhutia serving as Co-Convener, Dr. Prerna Sharma as Organising Secretary, and Mr. Pretam Dahal as Programme Coordinator.
The workshop will feature a distinguished panel of resource persons including Mr. Solmon Sharma (CEO, BALKAPSO Construction), Mr. Yogendra Pradhan (Superintending Engineer, Education Department, Government of Sikkim), Mr. Ashok Chettri (Superintending Engineer, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim), and Ms. Dawa Zangmu Sherpa (Assistant Engineer, Roads and Bridges Department, Government of Sikkim), bringing extensive industry and field expertise to the sessions.
The programme aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by equipping participants with essential skills in modern construction practices, particularly suited for hilly terrains. It will feature expert lectures, live demonstrations, and technical discussions based on real-world scenarios.
Key areas of focus include professional responsibilities on site, concrete mix design, seismic design requirements for buildings in Sikkim, bar bending schedule (BBS), quality control practices, and retrofitting techniques for enhancing structural resilience. The programme is designed to promote safe, durable, and sustainable construction practices in challenging terrains.
The workshop is intended for Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers, final-year students, and construction professionals seeking to strengthen their practical knowledge and technical competence. Participants will be awarded certificates upon successful completion of the programme.
