3-Day Packaging Training Program Conducted at GFPF
Singtam, Sikkim — A comprehensive three-day Packaging Training Program is being held at the Government Fruit Preservation Factory (GFPF), Singtam, aimed at strengthening the technical capacity of local entrepreneurs and enhancing product marketability through effective packaging solutions by the Commerce and Industries Department under the RAMP Scheme.
The program was graced by Smt. Karma D Youtso (SCS), Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department, Shri M. Ravi Kumar (IFS), Principal Director (MSME), Commerce & Industries Department, Smt. Chanda Rani Rai, Managing Director, GFPF, Shri. Netish Periwal, from WePack, Siliguri & GFPF officials.
Addressing the participants, Smt. Karma D Youtso emphasised the critical role of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth in the state. She encouraged entrepreneurs to formalise their enterprises through Udyam Registration and highlighted the various exposure visits and support initiatives facilitated by the department. She expressed her satisfaction with the enthusiasm of the trainees and took time for individual interactions, understanding their challenges and assuring them of the department’s continued support in scaling their ventures.
Shri M. Ravi Kumar (IFS) underscored the importance of capacity-building programs such as this training in enhancing the competitiveness of MSMEs. He reiterated that the Commerce & Industries Department remains committed to providing necessary guidance and policy support to empower entrepreneurs across Sikkim.
The technical sessions were conducted by Mr. Netish Periwal, Resource Person from WePack, who delivered in-depth insights into modern packaging practices. He highlighted the importance of packaging in ensuring product safety, extending shelf life, improving branding, and increasing market appeal.
The training program witnessed active participation from local entrepreneurs, reflecting a growing interest in adopting improved packaging standards for better market access.
