Two-day thematic training  on the Theme ‘Child Friendly Villages’ to the Elected Representatives of Gram Panchayats under Namchi Block concludes:
Namchi, 24 March : Nelson Mandela has aptly said, “Children are our greatest treasure. They are our future”.  It, is, therefore becomes our mandatory responsibility as a society and as a nation to create an environment for the development of a strong, healthy and intellectual childhood.  Our society today is infested with various social evils like child labour, drug addiction, child marriage, beggary, child abuse etc. These evils hamper the proper development of children. If it remains unchecked, it will jeopardise and endanger the future of the country.
Thus, on the guidelines formulated by the ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India, the State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (SIRD & PR), Karfectar, Jorethang had organized a two days thematic training on the 23rd and 24th March 2026 on the Theme 03: ‘Child Friendly Villages’ to the elected representatives and rural development functionaries of all Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) under Namchi Block at the Municipal Council Hall, Namchi.
The Child Friendly Village is theme: 3 of the nine themes introduced by the ministry for rural development. The basic concept of a child-friendly village is that it helps to address deep-rooted problems of child labour and other social issues in the village, such as child marriage, child abuse and trafficking and violence against children, through activities initiated by children and creates a culture that values education.
The first day of the two days training began with a welcome speech by Mrs Sangita Pradhan, Jr, Faculty, SIRD & PR, Jorethang. In her opening remarks, she outlined the gathering about the primary concept of the Theme: Child Friendly Village. Following the opening of the training, the 1st day of the programme, lectures were categorised and delivered under the following topics by various resource persons:
1. Concept and significance of Child Friendly Village- Mrs Sangita Pradhan, Junior Faculty, SIRD&PR.
2. Child Nutrition and Development- Mr Roshan Kaushik, Junior        Faculty, SIRD&PR.
3. Child Protection- Mrs Sangita Pradhan, Junior Faculty, SIRD&PR.
The second and final day of the training was chaired and addressed by Shri Upendra Rai, Block Development Officer (BDO), Namchi. The BDO, Namchi, in his address, suggested the introduction of certain innovative and novel ideas/concepts, viz.  formation of child bank for financial literacy and discipline, promotion of financial assistance in opening of Sukanya Samridhi Scheme by the GPU, ensure proper record keeping of vaccination profile by the GPU, awareness in administration of prenatal anti rabies vaccination, awareness in building of child friendly toilets in schools and Anganwadi centres, these concepts would go a long way in development of an effective child friendly panchayat. The second day of the programme had discussions on the following topics by the resource persons mentioned:
1. Importance of Bal Panchayat, Election Procedure & Bal Sabha- Mrs Sangita Pradhan, Junior Faculty, SIRD&PR.
2. Planning for Child-Friendly Village as per LIF- Mr. Karna Bahadur Chettri, Junior Faculty, SIRD&PR.
The two-day training programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Junior Faculty, SIRD&PR Jorethang.
