Launch of Annual TB Report & TB Mukt Bharat Phase II On the occasion of World TB Day
Gangtok, March 24: The State TB Cell under the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, marked the observance of World TB Day with the formal launch of the Annual TB Report and the commencement of TB Mukt Bharat Phase II, reaffirming its commitment towards eliminating tuberculosis.
The programme was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, PDHS-cum-MD, NHM, along with Directors, Additional Directors, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Deputy Directors, Health Education Officer (HEO), Medical Officers In-Charge (MOICs) from Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs), Medical Officers from Urban Health Centres, Urban ASHAs, teachers and students from Deorali Senior Secondary School, and staff from UPHCs and UPHSCs. Officials and staff from the State IEC Bureau (SIECB) and State TB Cell (STBC) were also present.
The event highlighted the significant progress made in tuberculosis control across the state, as reflected in the Annual TB Report. Key achievements, ongoing challenges, and strategic interventions were discussed, with emphasis on early detection, treatment adherence, and community awareness.
The launch of TB Mukt Bharat Phase II marks a renewed and intensified effort towards achieving a tuberculosis-free India. The initiative focuses on strengthening grassroots-level engagement, enhancing diagnostic and treatment services, and increasing public awareness through Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilisation (ACSM).
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest emphasised the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration and community participation in eliminating TB. Special focus was laid on the role of healthcare workers, ASHAs, and educational institutions in spreading awareness and reducing stigma associated with the disease.
Students from Deorali Senior Secondary School actively participated in the programme along with teachers, reinforcing the importance of youth engagement in public health initiatives.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge to work towards a TB-free Sikkim, aligning with the national goal of a TB Mukt Bharat.
