“One Day at School” Programme
Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Soreng District
Soreng, March 22: The Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Soreng District, in collaboration with the District Administrative Centre, successfully organised a “One Day at School” programme on 20th March 2026 at Government Senior Secondary School, Gelling.
The programme commenced with the arrival of teachers, staff, and students, followed by the formation of the chairperson for the event. A traditional offering of khada was presented to the chairperson as a mark of respect and welcome.
The welcome address was delivered by Ms Silah Rana, who warmly greeted all present and highlighted the importance of such initiatives. This was followed by a brief description of the programme by Mr DB Subba, Assistant Director, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Soreng District, emphasising holistic development through co-curricular activities.
A series of engaging activities was conducted for students, including Sweet Collection Competition (LKG–III), the Poem Recitation (Classes IV–VII), and the Extempore Speech (Classes VIII–XII). Students participated enthusiastically and displayed remarkable talent.

The programme also featured an address by the Chairperson, Senior Teacher Mr KP Sharma, who encouraged students to actively engage in such activities for their overall development.
Prizes were distributed to the winners and participants in recognition of their performances. Additionally, sports materials, including footballs, were handed over to the school to promote sports culture among students.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr Ganga Bdr Chettri, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, organisers, teachers, and students for their support and cooperation.
The event proved to be a successful initiative in fostering creativity, confidence, and active participation among students, while strengthening community engagement.
