72nd Battalion SSB Saves the Life of a Tourist in Sikkim; Exemplifies Humanity and Readiness
Gyalshing,March 21:Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has once again demonstrated its core values of "Service, Security, and Brotherhood" by providing life-saving medical assistance to a woman tourist from West Bengal who had fallen critically ill in the high-altitude terrain of Yuksam today.
Incident Details:
Ms Purnima Paul (W/o Mr Arun Paul), a resident of Bankura district, West Bengal, who was visiting the region, reported to the Unit Hospital with severe symptoms of Acute Respiratory Distress (Difficulty in Breathing) and Nausea. Given the challenging geographical conditions, her condition was deteriorating rapidly.
Prompt Action and Treatment:
Under the able guidance of Shri Narayan Ram Khadav, Second-in-Command, 72nd Battalion, the unit’s medical team acted with extreme promptness. Recognising the emergency, the patient was immediately placed on Oxygen Support. The medical staff administered life-saving medications and provided Nebulization therapy to stabilise her breathing. Thanks to the timely intervention and expert care, the patient’s condition improved significantly.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Narayan Ram Khadav emphasised that while the primary duty of the SSB is to guard the borders, the safety and well-being of the local population and tourists remain a top priority. He lauded the medical team for their dedication and for acting as a "Shield of Protection" for citizens in distress.
The prompt and humanitarian action by the SSB has been widely appreciated by the visiting tourists and the local community, further strengthening the bond of trust between the forces and the public.
