Three-Day and Two-Day Residential Workshops for SRGs under the Special Numeracy Programme Concluded Successfully
Gangtok, March 21, 2026: The Education Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with Jodo Gyan, successfully conducted a series of residential workshops for members of the State Resource Group (SRGs) under the Special Numeracy Programme, aimed at strengthening foundational numeracy across primary grades.
A three-day 2nd residential workshop was organized from 16th to 18th March 2026 for one group of SRGs who will be facilitating cluster-level training for Class III Mathematics teachers. This was followed by a two-day residential workshop held on 19th and 20th March 2026 for another group of SRGs who will conduct similar training for Class I and II Mathematics teachers. Both these programmes were held on a residential mode in Hotel New Tiara Regency, Tattangchen, Gangtok.
A total of 115 SRGs actively participated in these intensive workshops. The sessions were designed to equip the SRGs with effective pedagogical strategies, activity-based learning approaches, and assessment techniques aligned with the objectives of the Special Numeracy Programme.
The workshops emphasised:
• Strengthening conceptual understanding of foundational numeracy
• Use of teaching-learning materials and hands-on activities
• Strategies for addressing learning gaps among students
• Effective facilitation techniques for cluster-level teacher training
• Discussion of Plans for the next cluster level workshop
Participants engaged in collaborative learning, demonstrations, and practice sessions to ensure readiness for cascading the training at the grassroots level.
These workshops mark a significant step towards enhancing the quality of mathematics education in early grades and ensuring that all children achieve grade-appropriate numeracy skills.
The Education Department reaffirmed its commitment to improving learning outcomes through continuous capacity-building initiatives under the Special Numeracy Programme.
The programme was organised by SCERT, Education Department and was coordinated by Mr. Rajiv Philip, Deputy Director SCERT.
