Gangtok,19th March, 2026:
A meeting of the Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA) with the Chairman and Members of the State Sports Development Board was held today at the Office of the Sikkim Olympic Association, Gangtok.
At the outset, the Chairman, Mr Rinzing Wangyal Chopel and Members Mr Devendra Gurung and Mr Sanju Pradhan were accorded a warm welcome by offering  traditional khada.
The General Secretary, Shri Jas Lal Pradhan(Arjuna Awardee), delivered the welcome address and highlighted the need for a coordinated and structured approach towards sports development in the State.
The Annual Report of the Sikkim Olympic Association for the year 2024–25 was presented before the house , outlining the activities undertaken and progress achieved during the period 2024-25.
The meeting deliberated extensively on various issues relating to the promotion and development of sports in Sikkim.
Key areas of discussions included strengthening of grassroots-level sports through systematic identification of talent from villages and schools, adoption of an athlete-centric approach with adequate support mechanisms,  promotion of sports clubs across the state, emphasis was laid on optimal utilisation of experienced and national level senior and retired players for coaching, Issues relating to cost effective sports infrastructure at the grassroots level, provision of standard equipment, establishment of academies, and extension of scholarships to promising athletes and emphasis on coaching programmes and setting of performance targets were also deliberated upon.
The meeting further reviewed the preparedness for participation in major national and international sporting events. The meeting also discussed organising  the Sikkim State Games Festival 2026, proposed to be held in October 2026.
The Chairman of State Sports Development Board proposed that the  next meeting be held with the Education Welfare Board, State Youth Development Board, Representatives from Education and Sports & Youth Affairs Departments and Sikkim Olympic Association.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri T.O. Lepcha, Vice President, SOA.
