Soreng, March 19: A One-Day Awareness Programme was successfully conducted at GPK Hall, Samsing Pipaley, Soreng District, Sikkim, with the objective of promoting entrepreneurship and creating awareness on various government schemes.
The programme was graced by Mr Chandra Bir Shasanker, Zilla Upadhyaksha, Soreng District, Government of Sikkim, as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by distinguished dignitaries, including Mr Mahesh Dawari, Secretary, SEED Cell; Ms Anula Gurung, General Manager, DIC Soreng; Mr Dipen Chettri, District Coordinator, SEED Cell, Soreng; along with the Panchayat President and members of Samsing Pipaley GPU.
The session commenced with a welcome address by Mr Dipen Chettri, who highlighted the significance of awareness initiatives in empowering local communities.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Mahesh Dawari, Secretary, SEED Cell, elaborated on the role of the SEED Cell as a vital bridge between the government and aspiring entrepreneurs. He underscored its role in facilitating access to loans, subsidies, and government schemes, while also supporting the preparation of project reports and strengthening financial linkages. He further highlighted that, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, key initiatives such as the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udhyamsheelta Vikas Yojana, One Family One Entrepreneur, and Skilled Youth Start-Up are being effectively implemented to promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-reliance across the state.
Ms Anula Gurung, General Manager, DIC Soreng, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the role of the District Industries Centre (DIC) in fostering entrepreneurship and MSME development. She also elaborated on the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), highlighting its benefits in enabling individuals to access financial assistance across various sectors. She emphasised that DIC plays a pivotal role in facilitating access to schemes, providing technical support, and bridging the gap between aspiring entrepreneurs and market opportunities in the district.
Mr Dawa Gyalpo Tamang, Inspector, DIC Soreng, presented an overview of the UNNATI Scheme, detailing loan facilities, subsidy provisions, eligibility criteria, and showcasing success stories from the region.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Zilla Upadhyaksha, stressed that career opportunities extend beyond government employment. He encouraged the youth and participants to embrace entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-reliance as pathways to sustainable livelihoods. He also urged the public to actively avail themselves of government schemes and assured continued support from the administration.
An interactive session followed, allowing participants to directly engage with resource persons and seek clarifications on various schemes and opportunities.
