A coordination meeting of the Social Welfare Department was convened today at the Conference Hall of the Department at Lumsey, under the chairmanship of Smt. Pamin Lepcha, Hon’ble Advisor, Social Welfare Department and Women ,Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department.
The meeting was attended by Smt. Sarika Pradhan IAS, Secretary, Social Welfare Department; Shri Prem Kumar Subba, Hon’ble Chairman, ST Welfare Board; Shri Chewang Norbu Lepcha, Hon’ble Chairman, Primitive Tribe Welfare Board; Shri Shekhar Sewa, Hon’ble Chairman, SC Welfare Board; Shri Hukum Chandra Rai, Hon’ble Chairman, OBC Welfare Board, along with senior officers and officials of the Department.
At the outset, the Secretary, in her welcome address, provided an overview of the mandate and functioning of the Department. She highlighted the various initiatives undertaken and the benefits accrued to society through the implementation of welfare schemes and programmes.
Subsequently, the heads of various sections of the Department made detailed presentations, outlining the schemes, grants, and ongoing activities being implemented, along with progress achieved and key focus areas.
The meeting deliberated on the progress of ongoing welfare initiatives, challenges encountered in implementation, and the need for enhanced coordination among stakeholders. Discussions also centred on strengthening service delivery mechanisms to ensure that the benefits of government schemes effectively reach all sections of society, with a focus on inclusive growth and community development.
The Hon’ble Chairpersons shared their views on the functioning and key activities of their respective Welfare Boards. They stated they were apprised of the various schemes and programmes being implemented by the Department. They also put forth their suggestions, sought necessary guidance and clarifications, and emphasized the need for effective implementation and wider outreach of these schemes. The need for imparting structured skill development training to youth to enhance their employability was also highlighted during the discussion.
In her address, the Hon’ble Advisor, Smt. Pamin Lepcha, offered valuable guidance on further strengthening the implementation of various schemes and emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts. She appreciated the dedication and commitment of the Secretary and officials of the Department, and reiterated the collective resolve towards ensuring inclusive development and effective outreach of welfare programmes.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Pempa Norbu Sherpa Joint Director, Social Welfare Department.
