Dedicated to the nation
Today on a historic occasion Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim Mr. Om Prakash Mathur inaugurated the expanded and renovated campus of 'Sikkim Inspiration Place' in Bardang as Chief Guest. The function was organized under the supervision of Indian Army (Black Cat Division) with the cooperation of state government. On this occasion, GOC Major General M of Black Cat Division. S. Rathore (AVSM, SM, VSM) were present and the presence of the officers of the Aay Army were present.
The journey of concept and development of Sikkim Inspiration site is possible with the active support, guidance and vision of the Hon'ble Governor in Lokbhavan, Sikkim. The site was established not only in the memory of the 22 brave soldiers martyred in the October 2023 flood disaster, but it is now dedicated to extending it to all the soldiers of Sikkim and across the country who sacrificed in various campaigns. Here the names of 294 brave martyred in 13 campaigns are marked in golden letters.
Hon'ble Governor expressed his gratitude to Indian Army, State Government, Cello Foundation (CSR Cooperation) and all the colleagues by expressing a proud moment. He said the site will now be a center of memory, but a source of inspiration for future generations. This site is an excellent example of military-civil fusion.
The Governor said that the coming generations and all visitors to this venue will be aware of the glorious events of our history, which the spirit of patriotism, sacrifice and bravery will live forever. He also said that just as the bravery saga of martyrs of other border states is exposed, similarly Sikkim should be identified through movies, documentary etc.
Two documentary films - "Sentinel of Sikkim" and "The Sikkim Saga" released in this programme. Major General Sagat Singh's bravery saga is featured in 1967 Nathu La war in "The Sikkim Saga"
Notable that last year the Hon'ble Governor expressed his desire to recognize the Nathu La Divas as the 'Nathu La Victory Divas' with his vision and thoughtfulness to highlight the military pride saga of the 1967 Nathu La War. In this link, a continuous effort has been made to bring the bravery and courageous role of Major General Sagat Singh (GOC of then 17 Mountain Division) to everyone. He dared to stick to Nathu La, rejecting the High Command retreat instructions. His perseverance, strategic vision and leadership have brought remarkable success to the Indian Army, restoring the nation's confidence and military pride after 1962. This war is a golden chapter of protecting India's sovereignty on the borders of Sikkim.
Inspiration site premises have amenities like Battlefield AV Hall (Displaying Sikkim's military history), cafeteria and reflexology park. This initiative promotes Battlefield tourism and connects tourists to the valor of Sikkim with important destinations like Dok-la, Cho-la.
Plaque unveiling in today's program, wreaths offered to brave martyr soldiers by Hon'ble Governor after Sarvadharma Puja. During this time, the cultural program were given presentations like Martial Arts, Snow Lion Dance (Singhi Cham) and Chandmelam Kalaripayattu by school children. Large number of local citizens, public representatives, army officers, soldiers, families of martyrs and school children attended the program.
