Gangtok, 18 March 2026:
A three-day Field Trainer Training Programme for the upcoming Census of India 2027 was successfully conducted from 16 to 18 March 2026 at the DAC Conference Hall, Sichey, Gangtok. The programme brought together participants from Gangtok, Pakyong, and Mangan districts, with the objective of strengthening the capacity of field trainers for efficient and accurate census operations.
The programme commenced with an inaugural session graced by the Additional District Magistrate, Gangtok-cum-District Census Officer, Mr. Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia. In his address, he underscored the importance of accurate data collection and highlighted the pivotal role of field trainers in ensuring the success of Census 2027. He emphasized the need for dedication, precision, and strict adherence to established guidelines throughout the enumeration process.
The training sessions were led by Master Trainer Mr. Sonam Wangyal Lepcha, Joint Director, DDMA Gangtok, along with Mr. Pravesh Rai from the Directorate of Census Operations, Sikkim. They conducted comprehensive sessions covering the introduction and legal framework of Census 2027, along with detailed explanations of key definitions to ensure clarity and uniform understanding among the trainees.
The programme also focused on critical technical aspects, including the ground-truthing mechanism of House Listing Block (HLB) boundaries and the preparation of layout maps. Participants were trained on the installation and use of the House Listing Operation (HLO) mobile application, with detailed demonstrations of its features and functionalities. Hands-on sessions enabled trainees to gain practical experience and build confidence in using the application effectively.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, where participants shared their experiences, addressed queries, and provided valuable feedback, making the session both engaging and insightful.
