A Fire Safety Demonstration and Training Programme for the School Heads & the Representatives of Elementary Schools of Khamdong & Rakdong- Tintek Blocks under Gangtok District was successfully conducted on 17th March 2026 at PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Singtam.
The programme was organized by the District Education Office, Gangtok in coordination with the Fire Station, Singtam. Participants included representatives from elementary schools under Khamdong and Rakdong Tintek Blocks. The DEO, Gangtok was represented by Joint Director and AD along with staff and Representatives from BAC Khamdong included Mrs Solome Rai , A.D. and Mr J.B.Tamang, A.E.O. The programme was also attended by Teachers and students of PM Shri Singtam G.SSS.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Assistant Director, Ms. Tshering Bhutia, followed by the traditional offering of khadas to Joint Director District Education Office Gangtok and the Resource Persons from the Fire Department.
The Fire Department team from Singtam was led by Station Officer (FSO) Mr. B.B. Chettri along with personnel including Naik Mr.Binod Pradhan, S/A Mr.Suresh Limboo, Mr.Emmanuel Subba and Mr.Robin Thapa.
The primary objective of the programme was to ensure that school authorities are well-trained in the effective use of fire-fighting equipments and are prepared to respond efficiently during emergency situations in schools.
A detailed demonstration and safety drill were conducted covering:
• Types of fire
• Handling of LPG cylinders
• Use of fire extinguishers
• Emergency response techniques
The session aimed to strengthen fire safety awareness, preparedness, and response capacity among the school community.
During the session, Mr. Binod Pradhan elaborated on the importance of fire safety and shared practical strategies to handle fire emergencies. A hands-on demonstration on the use of fire extinguishers was also conducted.
Participants were given practical training, including guidance on the correct method of operating fire extinguishers.
The programme concluded successfully with the thanks giving note from Joint Director, District Education Office,Gangtok Mr Basu Dev Adhikari who stated that such safety drills play a crucial role to prepare school communities to respond effectively during emergencies. He expressed his gratitude to the Fire & Emergency service Officials from Singtam Station and all the participants for their support in making the programme a successful event.
