Social Welfare Department Conducts ‘One Day at School’ Awareness Programme at Dodak.
Soreng, March 16: The Social Welfare Department, Soreng District, conducted an awareness programme titled “One Day at School” on March 16, 2026, at Government Secondary School, Dodak, Soreng District, West Sikkim. The programme was organised under the initiative of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Soreng, with the objective of sensitising students on important social issues, legal provisions, and government welfare schemes while encouraging constructive interaction between students and government officials.
The programme was attended by the School Principal, teaching staff, students of Government Secondary School, Dodak, and B.Ed. college students undergoing internship training, along with officials from the Social Welfare Department.
During the session, Senior Welfare Officer Mrs. Prativa Tamang highlighted the objectives of the “One Day at School” initiative and sensitised the students on several important social themes. These included awareness on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), transgender and LGBTQIA awareness to promote equality and inclusiveness, the significance of inter-caste marriage in fostering social harmony, and information on the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
Students were also provided information on educational support schemes available through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), including details on Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarships, eligibility criteria, and the application process.
The programme also featured an interactive session and quiz competition based on the awareness topics to encourage student participation and reinforce their understanding. Ms. Hema Rai served as the Master of the Ceremony for the programme.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates, pens, and copies to the participants and winners of the quiz competition. The initiative proved to be informative and beneficial in enhancing awareness among students on important social issues and government welfare schemes.
