Soreng, March 16: The valedictory programme for the "Training Programme on Bamboo Work Artisan," specifically designed for "Productive Ageing" of senior citizens, successfully concluded today at the Positron Institute in Deythang, Soreng District.
This initiative, held under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY), was conducted by the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, through the State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB). The closing ceremony was graced by Mr Phurba Tshering Bhutia, Chairman of the Land Use and Environment Board, as the Chief Guest, alongside Guest of Honour Ms Sabina Gurung, Panchayat President of Deythang GPU, and Panchayat Member Mr Bhim Sharma.
During the session, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship and commended the senior participants for their dedication to learning sustainable livelihood skills. The programme also included the distribution of certificates to the trainees and an exhibition of the intricate bamboo products created during the course, marking a significant milestone in empowering the elderly community of the region.
